What to Expect

The moment you enter Homewood Chiropractic, you will feel welcomed by our warm friendly environment and helpful and enthusiastic staff. Our waiting area is quiet and comfortable and hot and cold drinks are available should you wish to take a moment to relax before or after your appointment.

After completing your new patient forms with the assistance of our receptionist, you will be taken to a changing cubicle where you can change into a treatment gown, underwear is left on and dressing gowns are provided for your comfort and warmth. Your chiropractor will greet you, take you through to your private treatment room and will spend time with you, making sure you understand how and why we do things, and will want to talk about your current health issues and what we can do to help you.

We encourage you to ask as many questions as you like! We then perform a thorough examination to determine how best to care for you. The examination will consist of us taking a medical history and carrying out any appropriate tests and assessments to enable us to diagnose your problem. All of the tests are painless and non-invasive.

The tests we do include a concise physical examination, and we may recommend further investigations like X-ray, scans or urine/blood tests.:
  • Physical examination: This includes spinal check, nerve, and  muscle tests.
  • Postural analysis: Your chiropractor will analyse your posture as you stand and will ask you to perform several movements. Areas of spinal stress, muscle tension, postural changes, and the likely progression of your posture with ageing is determined. Information gained is stored on your file so we can monitor progress as we bring you to better posture.

Once we have taken a physical examination and details of your past medical history, we will talk you through how we may be able to help you. A program of care will be explained to you (including costs) and we will agree on a path of care which you are comfortable with. Of course, any questions or concerns that you have will be answered.

The agreed treatment plan will not always commence during the first session as further diagnostic examination or off site tests may be necessary in some cases. If you are in severe pain we will start treatment the same day wherever possible.

What to bring with you

Please bring along details of your referring Doctor or Consultant (if appropriate), any x-rays or medical records you may have, health insurance details including policy/reference number, feel free to bring a friend or relative if you wish.

Your Regular Visitclinic changing room

On a typical visit you register at the front desk on arrival. When it is your turn, you will be escorted to a changing cubicle to change into a gown for your treatment. The chiropractor will assess any changes in your health status to determine what areas need to be adjusted and answer any questions you may have.

These visits typically require 15-20 minutes, although the amount of time required varies form patient to patient and there is no ‘time limit’ to your treatment. Sometimes a therapy will need to be used which may take an additional 10-15 minutes. We may also wish to run through a simple program of exercises with you to aid your recovery and progress. This will be scheduled as a separate appointment at an appropriate stage in your care.
